The Fulvous Whistling Duck gets its name from its colouring as 'Fulvous' means tawny.

The Fulvous Whistling Duck prefers to roost on the ground rather than perching in trees.

Adult birds can be confused with the Lesser Whistling Duck, which is smaller, has a blackish crown and lacks an obvious dark stripe down the back of the neck.
